MADDEN YOUNGSTERS WIN TWO PURSES Entry Finishes OneTwo in Second Race Cam ¬ paigner Defeats Smoker and Simple Honours Washington D C April 3 The weather was wintry this afternoon but a big attendance was at the track to witness the races which were full of interest although the card was far below the standard The track was dry on top but is still heavy and holding underneath underneathTwo Two races for the youngsters were the chief attractions of the afternoon Both of them were won by John B Maddcns colts the entry finishing onetwo in the first which was second on the card and High Range taking the fourth fourthBerkeley Berkeley and Comedienne declined the handicap which opened the sport Smoker and Simple Hon ¬ ours were the choices but both were defeated by Campaigner The winner lost several lengths on the stretch turn but came again with a rush and secured first place from Smoker in the last stride The latter and Simple Honours finished In the middle of the track and Smoker proved the gamer gamerThe The Madden entry consisting of Takahira and Deviser were much the best of the eight young ¬ sters which started in the second race The winner was never extended and was eased up at the end Lady Ethelyn finished with a rush and took third place in the last stride from Great Jubilee JubileeMillstone Millstone the winner of the fifth race was cred ¬ ited with sonic fast trials and ran accordingly Umbrella which was heavily backed at the time of her last start and was beaten off finished second in the last stride Woodline ran into the fence in the stretch and fell Jockey Krans was badly shaken up by Ills tunible tunibleThe The biggest upset of the afternoon came with thg runningof the last race in which Poquessliiij vas a pronounced favorite Park IlOw raced the favorite into defeat in the first half bht was forced to do his best at the end to withstand the game challenge of Killiecrankie KilliecrankieJockey Jockey McCarthy rode four winners and finished third with both of his other two mounts His fol ¬ lowing profited handsomely
