KENTUCKY RACING COMMISSION PAYS PAYSLexington Lexington Ky May 11 When the State Racing Commission announced its decision to require that every trainer and jockey participating In the rac ¬ ing in Kentucky take out i license it was de ¬ clared that a portion of the proceed would be put Into fund to pay the sickness and death expenses of indigent persons of those callings This was received in some doubt by many who had recollec ¬ tions of such promises In the days of the old Turf Congress and for that matter at least one of its succeeding governing bodies That the Racing Com ¬ mission was In earnest in this as it has been in everything it has done during the two years of Its existence is illustrated in tthe ease of the veteran Frank A Jones whose remains were Interred here Friday This old man was one of the first to take out a license under thei Racing Commission He paid bis ten dollars April 18 and proudly gave ibis age as eighty years claiming the distinction of being the oldest and most active trainer In America He had a small string at the Kentucky Association track including Orison and Watertight belonging to James B Brady The only horse he owned out ¬ right was Sempro a threeyearold and he fell lame in his work a few mornings before the spring meeting opened The result vas that the old man never had a chauco to start a horse under his li ¬ cense He caught cold last Saturday and died Monday night He was given a decent burial and the State Racing Commission paid the bills His funeral was largely attended by the breeders and horsemen of this region regionTrainer Trainer Charles Hughes will leave here next Friday for Sheepshead Bay with five horses three twoyearolds and two threeyearolds belonging to Henry M Ziogler tho Cincinnati theatrical mag ¬ nate He Is in the market for one or two more good youngstirs and may make a deal before ship ¬ ping time The trainer has a liking for Direct in the string of W J Young He asked Young at the meeting here if he would take 1000 for the colt Young said ho would not The names and breeding of the Xieglor live are as follows followsStolypin Stolypin br c 2 by Meltonian Bermuda Lily LilyNight Night Rider br c 2 by Lamplighter Louis ¬ ville villeOkra Okra ch f 2 by Ornus Frcderica FrcdericaSmIIinda SmIIinda b f 3 by Woolsthorpe Tommle Bell BellMiramar Miramar gr g 3 by Faraday Crimea CrimeaThese These horses wintered at Highland Fann and have been in training over the track at E It Brad leys Idle Hour Farm which is just across the road They are all in good condition conditionJohn John Rodegap has not shipped his string to Louis ¬ ville and may not go there at all He went down Derby day to sec about stable room and did not like the quarters that were available There has been an awful lot of rain this year more than I ever remember at this season In any previous year and I do not care to take chances on chang ¬ ing quarters under the circumstances Id rather wait until tho weather gets good and dry than to ship through the rain and go into a stable that is low and damp There will be plenty to run for at Latonia said he heA A L Darnaby shipped sixteen horses to Louis ¬ ville Thursday He lias some promising twoyear olds in his string Jockey Fogarty Is under con ¬ tract to Darnaby
