NOTES OF THE TURF Arthur Birch the English steeplechase Jockey whose back was broken in a fall from Black Ivory a year ago last December is still alive He is in wonderful spirits though quite helpless being par ¬ alyzed from the waist down He is cheerful in his modest home where his faithful wife gives him her constant attention He has four children anil is allowed 5 a week by Mr Conn the owner of Black Ivory IvoryThe The horses owned by Irving H Wheatcroft presi ¬ dent and general manager of the Kentucky Valley Railroad Company and which are now racing at Louisville under the name of II Clark Co will be taken to Seattle at the close of the Churchill Downs meeting In future the stable will be known as the St James Stable receiving its name from St James Island Victoria British Columbia the home of Mr Wheatcroft
