DEATH OF A PROMINENT TURF OFFICIAL John H Bradford Treasurer of the Jockey Club Carried Off by Pneumonia New York May 20 John II Bradford one of the organizers and the treasurer of the Coney Is ¬ land Jockey Club and treasurer of the Jockey Club since its organization died this morning at bis home in tills city Mr Bradford caught cold at Belinont Park last Friday and Tuesday pneumonia developed His physical condition was not such as to enable him to withstand the disease and the end todayMr came peacefully just before noon today Mr Bradford was not only one of tho most prom ¬ inent racing men In New York state hut one of the most popular as well He represented the inter ¬ ests of W K Vanderbilt in the Coney Island Jockey Club and the liberal and progressive spirit tills association has always shown was the result of his devotion to the sport and ills aim to put it on the highest plane His latest work In this lino was the reconstruction of the Sheepshead Bay course at a cost of 150000 which has just been completed Although lu Illhealth and a practical cripple for the last dozen years he rarely missed a day at the track and It was his untiring devo ¬ tion to the sport that hurried his death deathMr Mr Bradford would have been sixtyfive years old next September lie leaves a widow and one son J II Bradford Jr His wife was a Miss Phlpps of Cincinnati and the body will be taken to the Ohio city for interment His death cast a gloom over tlie proceedings at the track today and the Hags were at halfmast In respect to his memory His death Is a big loss to the turfi
