SELLING PLATERS RULE AT OAKLAND Gcmmell Beaten in the Feature Race of the Day San Alviso Runs Fast Oakland Cal May 21 Tlie colors of Rudolph Sprcckels were in front at Oakland today his good fouryearold San Alviso winning the third race at one liiile and a sixteenth from six others in the very fast tinui of 1451 which is within a fraction of a second of the local track record for the distance The victory of the Spreekels horse was well re ¬ ceived a good share of the applause going to jockey A Walsh for his horsemanship which contributed so much to San Alvisos success Owing to the prominence of tho owner of the winning horse this was easily the most interesting feature of the after ¬ noons sport sportFrom From a purely racing standpoint the Millbrae Handicap at seven furlongs engaging such cracks as ieinmell College Willow Kntre Nous and Down patrick far overshadowed the remainder of the card however It resulted in a sensational upset The hitherto almost invincible sprinting champion Jenmell suffering an inglorious defeat and fin ¬ ishing absolutely last when starting for the first time in the colors of his new owner William Walker Kntro Nous the extreme outsider won all the way in convincing fashion from College Widow the best backed horse in the race raceIe Ie Thankful in the last race was the only favorite that materialized during the day dayWeather Weather and track conditions were ideal and the attendance was immense
