READY FOR ACTION AT FAIR LATONIA Indications Point to but Five Starters in the Derby With Keep Moving Preferred Latonia Ifcice Track Ky June 1 Indications are that the present meeting of the Latoiria Jockey Club will lie up to former standards1 The stables are all fillexl and secretary Dillon has been obliged to turn away many turfmen whom he would have liked to accommodate The track Itself Is In ex ¬ cellent condition and if no rain falls it will be in shape for record running tomorrow when the twenty second Derby is to be decided decidedThe The Derby is somewhat lacking In goodclass con ¬ testants as compared with some former years but at the same time the probable starters are evenly matched and rhould fnrnlsli an interesting contest Of those named in the entries it is probable that not more than live will start Keep Moving Ordono Czar Pinkola anil Sir Cleges ClegesThe The candidates have all had their preparation either through racing or work and nothing was done with any of them today except openingup gallops Powers will ride Keep Moving E Martin Czar Minder Piukola Pickens Ordono and Heldel Sir Cleges Keep Moving will be favorite for the race and among some of the wellinformed horsemen the belief prevails that she can win the event If she is rt turned tlie Victor it will be the second time the race has gone to a filly the other occasion being when Ixis Angeles ran a dead heat with White and then won the rimoft Czar will have many friends both on his Louisville form as well as on his breed ¬ ing stayerIt and conformation which mark him as a stayer It has finally been decided not to experiment with the 2 mutuels and as at Louisville all the ma ¬ chines will record 5 wagers This decision was onlv arrived at after careful consideration It was at first felt that the installation of the 2 machines would be si popular move but the success of the 5 mntuels at Churchill Downs and the constantly growing volume of business handled culminating in the two biggest days of the meeting last Friday and Saturday caused the management to abandon the 2 idea ideaThirteen Thirteen machines will be in use here five each for straight and show players and three for place betting The auction pool booth will be presided over by the same men who sold auctions at Churchill Downs Ten Cashiers will be employed tomorrow This force may be decreased thereafter thereafterThere There is a noticeable absence of the regular race followers in evidence in former years but the management does not anticipate a big decrease in attendance Preparations are at present going on to care for a record crowd tomorrow tomorrowII II C Ridtllc cting for W A Hughes has pur ¬ chased from A Grater the fast twoyearold filly Ethelda W J Donohnes Rickey was injured while being led to the track by eomiug into a collision with a street car carT T O McDowells Galllleo was given a preliminary mile late this afternoon covering the distance in 140 His owner at once announced that the colt would not be a starter in the Derby Judge DerbyJudge Charles E Price who will preside In the judges stand arrived this afternoon J U Strode has sent part of his string to Hamilton Ont where they will be raced racedFractions Fractions of five cents will be paid winners at this track Most of the machines installed here were used at Churchill Downs DownsUncle Uncle Jim Gray one of the oldest and bestknown turfmen in the country who was compelled to re ¬ tire to his farm at Minco Oklahoma two years ago Is here with two youngsters that he thinks highly of These are both by Bowling Green one out of Wampezo and the other out of Idlebridge
