DAVY JOHNSON IN HIS STRIDE AGAIN New York June 10 Dave Johnson who was Hat broke a couple of weeks ago but who has been getting on his feet with rapidity ever since enjoyed one of the most successful days of his turf career at Gravosend Saturday afternoon Johnson began operations by hacking Frank J Fanells colt James B Brady in the first race He lost a wager on the steeplechase but had a big bet on the Madden entry in the Great American Stakes Johnson then prepared to unbelt on Chapultepec in the Carlton Stakes Walking up to bookmaker Tom Shaw in the ring he wagered 2000 at f to 2 Shaw took the bet with a smile and Johnson promptly made an ¬ other wager with him for the same amount amountDo Do you want any more asked the bookmaker blandly blandlyTwo Two thousand replied Johnson The bet was taken and Johnson came back with still another making the total bet S000 against 20000 Shaw was willing to take even more at the price for lie had declined to rub but Johnson1 turned away as a crowd had gathered and the excitement was intense intenseBefore Before he left the ring however Johnson placed an additional 2000 with two other layers so that he cleaned up 25000 when Chapultepec heat the harrier nnd won all the way The plunger had an ¬ other big wager on Rockstoiie in the fifth event and played both Armiak and the Belmont entry in the last race Last year Johnson won 52000 In one day at Belmont Park but Saturday he was said to have eclipsed this remarkable record
