BRIGHTON BEACH STAKES NOT DECLARED OFF No Action to That End Taken Other Than in Caso of Events Named Recently New York June 24 President Christopher Fitz ¬ gerald of the Brighton Beach Racing Association will Issue a statement tonight setting forth fully the Intentions of the Brighton management for their meeting In the matter of stakes and overnight races that will be given It is not true that any oti the remaining stakes after the first announce ¬ ment of last week was made of the withdrawal of r the Triumph Chantilly Sunrise and other late closing events have as yet been declared off No action hag been taken in the premises by the board oq Hrectors Mr Fitzgerald said after the last race at Sheepshead Bay today that some fthe stakes will surely be run off that is to say aiSaaay suitable stakes as thej possibly can John Boden is now hard at work on the program for the meeting and an effort will he made to have the books ready for distribution by next Monday Neither James R Keene nor Harry Payne Whitney has released the Brighton Beach Association from its obligation of the the running of the stakes In which they are interested as nominators The latter denied the report that he would not race his horses at the seaside course if said stakes were de ¬ clared off James U Keene remarked during the afternoon that he had not signed a release but was not in any mind to force the Brighton Association to do what it was unable to do doReferring Referring to a report in circulation during the day that he had received overtures from England for Colin and had decided to send the chainylon there for stud purposes at an early datexMr Keene said that it was not true and tills was the first he had 1 heard of any such intention on his part partRight Right on top of this general manager WJnn of the Empire City Association made the cheering announcement that President James Butler just before he sailed for Europe had instructed him to go on with liis preparations for their August meeting as if nothing had happened and to run off the whole program of stakes and purses as originally advertised no matter what the financial loss might total totalThe The stewards of the Jockey Club have resolved to enforce the former press censorship relaxed since the beginning of the antiracing crusade more rigidly than ever1 and extreme measures involving the removal of the WesternUnion Telegraph wirts from the tracks were ordered to be put into effect beginnlngvtomorrow The projected wire Interdiction was however put off for one day and will not go Into forceuntil Friday when for the first time1 there will be no telegraph service whatever available inside of the Sheepshead Bay race course This action is taken In order to comply with the Jockey Clubs old agreement with the Rev Doctor Slicer to use their best efforts to prevent Information and results of the races from leaking out and be ¬ coming available for poolroom uses Dr Slicer cauie out publicly after the AgnewIIart antibetting laws were passed and absolved the Jockey Club from living up to its agreement with him to sup ¬ press iKiolroom service from the track This the track aiithorites do not desire to take advantage of ofA A late announcement of the association tonight is as follows The Brighton Beach Racing Asso ¬ ciation has decided in View of the situation con ¬ fronting racing to make a formal announcement to its patrons both horsemen and the public that it will give its customary meeting In July at Brighton Beach and that stakes and purses will be offered of the highest possible value commensurate with conditions The program of races will be an ¬ nounced in due time timeThe The proposal to modify or declare off the stakes of this association which closed last January and previously thereto has met with a ready response more than sixty per cent of nominators having signed the consent forwarded to them a week ago agoMany Many nominators live at distant points and the mails will probably bring their acquiescence In the course of a feV days daysC C J Fitzgerald President
