STANLEY FAY MAKES A NEW TRACK RECORD Seattle Wash July IS William Walters grand threeyearold colt Stanley Fay made a new track record for a mile and a hundred yards by running the distance in 144 J and winning the Cascade Han ¬ dicap at The Meadows today The colts achieve ¬ ment was especially meritorious from the fact that he was carrying an impost of 111 pounds and con ¬ ceding from eleven to thirty pounds by the scale to mature horses with which he was competing Be ¬ sides lie did not enjoy the best of racing luck being pocketed for a good part of the race and the bull ¬ dog courage which he displayed on securing clear sailing in the stretch aroused anew the admiration and enthusiasm of local racegoers No horse ever received a greater ovation here than was accorded him upon his return to the winners circle and the erroneous announcement that the time of the race represented a new American record was the signal for fresh outbursts That the colt will be an over ¬ whelming favorite for the Derby one week henpe is now fully assured assuredIlls Ills feat overshadowed the outcome of The Mead ¬ ows Selling Stakes which was scheduled as the feature of the day and which was won in track record time by Boggs a Derby candidate from the Keene stable which showed his real form for the first time here Boggs carried only 95 pounds but won with his ears pricking in 138 after making up many lengths of ground lost in the early stages as a result of jockey Morgans unpreparedness for the start Boggs Derby stock advanced as a result of his victory today but he is conceded only an out ¬ side chance at best bestTavora Tavora helped to make things interesting for the big halfholiday crowd that enjoyed the sport by equalling the track record for six furlongs In win ¬ ning her race Stirring finishes were the rule all afternoon and the racing was brilliant and formful throughout throughoutThe The success of four heavily backed favorites en ¬ abled the public to take a large amount out of the ring Maurice Raphael John Glenn J Hutchlnsou and Edwin Fryer joined local layers at todays cut in while Johnny Lyon dropped out Ed outEd Dealy boosted Fred Bent taken from him a few days ago by H U Schaffer from 1100 to 1400 but failed to get the horse back Jockey backJockey Bettig cancelled his engagements for to ¬ day because of a slight attack of ptomaiue poisoa
