BAD FOR FAVORITES AT SEATTLE Seattle Wash July 31 The layers had good reason for satisfaction over todays results at The Meadows for break after break enabled the ring since January 1 1JOO This time is not necessarily to make its biggest winning of the season Form players had a correspondingly disastrous day Pool racing luck pursued public choices that seemingly had good chances of winning and every favorlfe was bowled over The erratic Cholk Hedrick won the mile and a quarter race which appeared on paper t be strictly between Arcourt and My Pal the former of which ruled favorite As high as 40 to 1 wttelaid against the winner with scarcely any tak ¬ ers Arcourt whose measure he took by a neck prob ¬ ably would have won but for being held in close quarters along the rail all the way by My Pal PalPirate Pirate Queen making her debut was the medium of a plunge that made her favorite in the race for maiden twoyearolds She was supported on the strength of sensationally fast work and flattered her backers for the first quarter only to fall back badly beaten In the stretch Golden Oriole a finely bred flliv leased by H W Hoag Co from W OB Macdonough the California breeder won this rsce in promising fashion fashionLa La Londe favorite of the second race showed nothing to warrant the support that had been lav ¬ ished upon her and ran out on the last turn aft r having been at no time prominent or eeeminzly darigerous The vastly improved Adela R won the race raceJockey Jockey Lycurgus made a bad mess of it with Early Tide the most promising betting proposition of the card After losing many lengths by being carried almost to the outer rail by Triumphant on the first turn Lycurgus tried to get through a small opening next to the rail on the last turn and was shut off had to pull up and finally took his mount to the outside in the stretch when it was too late to be effective The result was that Ida May second choice beat Early Tide a scant head Rudolph Spreckels II Tremor running a sur ¬ prisingly good race was a keen contender through ¬ out and was lust beaten in the final strides stridesServed Served by the best of racing luck Nattie Bumppo won the rcce for which Josies Jewel was favorite The later probably was best and made up many lencths stagiFor lost by costly Interference at a critical stagi For the ninth consecutive time the favorites failed in the closing race Nonle and Esuampdo rulod equal choices The former finished second but Escamado lost all chance by being pocketed right after the start startJockey Jockey McClain the sensation of last season hero showed a Hash of his oldtime form in winning with Prince Brutus
