BAYONET A JUMPER OF FIRST CLASS Of late Madden has been handling Bayonet for Thomas Hitchcock Jr although when he runs the name of William Walker one of Maddens helpers appears on the program as his trainer In his hands Bayonet has Improved greatly and he comes pretty close to being the best jumper in the country today Last season the Handspring Vol tario gelding did better but was far from a fin ¬ ished fencer He ran nine times and won one race and 1315 But this season Mr Hitchcocks horse has been unplaced but once when he stumbled second but once when Sanctus beat him and lias won six out of eight races and 7300 If the racing situation clears up by next spring it Is said that Madden and Hitchcock will launch out with one of the strongest strings of jumpers ever campaigned in the country and Madden will train trainBayonet Bayonet had little racing as a twoyearold when he was twice unplaced He ran but four races in his yreeyearold form and in them was but once third earning 75
