BELMONT AND WHITNEY FOR ENGLAND Have Leased Balaton Lodge Together Belmont Jars with Jockey Club Associates London August 17 It is now stated that Bal ¬ aton Lodge Newmarket has not been leased to Messrs Keene and Belmont but to Mr Belmont and Harry Payne Whitney The buildings were first erected by Lord Xetland who sold them to his trainer Joe Enoch Then the late Sir J B Maple purchased them He sold them to his trainer William Waugh Messrs Clarke and Sir J B Kobiuson leased them and now they are let to Messrs Belmont and Whitney The grounds adjoin those of Lord Penrhyn PenrhynIn In connection with Mr Belmonts long stay in England in these troublous times for the turf his plans for increasing his racing stable there and the leasing of an establishment at Newmarket it may be said upon good authority that after the passage of the HartAgnew bills Mr Belmoiit and his associates in the Jockey Clnb had serious differ ¬ ences over what had happened at Albany and that those differences had not been adjusted when the chairman of the Jockey Club went to England They have not been adjusted since It is said that Mr Belmont Is never again expected to take a leading part In the councils of the Jockey Club Outside ills breeding ventures It is declared Mr Belmout holds but a moderate Interest In the met ¬ ropolitan race tracks though he Is a heavy bond ¬ holder in the properties The Interest of W H Vaudorbilt far exceeds those of Mr Belmont in the New York race tracks tracksThe The news of the English lease is therefore no surprise to eastern racing men who know the situation The lease also means that the Belmont horses will go out of the hands of James Watson at Palace House Newmarket Watson has trained Mr Belmonts horses in the past in connection with those of Mr Leopold de Rothschild Baron E de Rothschild Mr Arthur Wagg and Mr John T Wood
