JAMAICA RACING NOT A HEALTHY PROSPECT Ernest Tcrlcy vicechairman of 41ie Jamaica foekey Club arrived here a day or two ago from Kingston en route to England Mr Verley repre ¬ senting the English clement in his club speaks fa ¬ vorably of the recently exploited proposal to estab ¬ lish winter racing in that island islandlie lie thinks the residents would welcome it l ecanse of a probable inlliix of race followers and conse ¬ quent prosperity for the town Mr Verley says lie Iocs not think any impediment would be put in the way of bookmakers who would do business on the vrces there and thinks that interest in the snort there would be kept alive by cable news as there is a difference in time of only seven minutes minutesAn An American jockey Breedin by name recently won seven out of eight races there and helped en ¬ rich a fellow countryman who backed the boys boysA A disoatch to the Herald from Kingston Jamaica says that a section of tlie community has started an agitation against the proposal of an American vndicate to come here and conduct races They ssiiv it will have a demoralizing effect upon the com ¬ munity owing to the large scale on which gambling will be carried on The matter is likely to be rep ¬ resented to the government
