to her many splendid performances by beating some of the best handicap horses that could be mustered in this section conceding them much actual weight and by running a mile and seventy yards in 1415 J established a new American record Kings Daughter had up 124 pounds and because of her impost was discarded in the betting in favor of Czar and John Carroll Nieol who had the mount on her sent her away in a forward position and using cool judgment avoided interference while attempting to place her in the early running She followed Goes Fast closely at n tremendous pace lor the lirst half and when called on on the stretch turn sprinted into a long lead with consummate ease Had she been urged she could have run fully a sec ¬ ond faster Tcrah also ran a line race coming with a rush through the stretch and getting up in the final strides to take second place from Goes Fast FastTodays Todays racing was spirited and fast throughout In addition to Kings Daughters good performance McDowells other highly tried sprinter Uerwick demonstrated his superiority over the other local shortdistance racers by winning In a good field of allage horses including Marse Abo and Elizabeth Harwood Herwick carried 127 pounds and carried it like a feather lie allowed the lightweights to make a stilt pace for the first half and when called on came away as his rider pleased The five and a half furlongs
