AUGUST BELMONT RETURNS FROM ENGLAND ENGLANDSays Says He Will Continue His American Racing and Breeding Establishments New York September 11 August Bolimmt re ¬ turned from Europe this morning aboard the Cunard steamship Lusitauia having boon away since June 1 Mr Belmont said that 3ie had been taking a complete rest lie appeared to be in vorv good health and spirits Speaking of racing Mr Bel ¬ mont said It is my intention to send more of my horses to England in tlio near future to race there than I have done heretofore It is because I deem it fairer to the small breeders and horse owners upon whom the present racing situation is bringing great loss and in some cases ruin that I with ¬ draw as much competition from them in the market for race horses and in racing as possible without giving up my support of the American turf I shall keep enough horses here to be represented but am selling in Kngiaud such yearlings as I do not propose to keep As t brooding 1 shall con ¬ tinue to breed my thoroughbreds at the Nursery Stud in Kentucky I can send yearlings bred there to England when I wish as all races in England are open to foreign thoroughbreds In order to be able to race in Franco however horses under the French rules must in all cases with the cxoention of a fow international stakes be bred in France For tills reason I am in negotiation for a small farm near Dieppe where I will send fifteen to twenty inures with a stallion or two probably Octagon and Ethelhort my brother Perrys horse It is only an experiment experimentMr Mr Whitney expects to send a half dozen mares to inn if I carry out the plan IJock Sand and Hastings will continue at the head of uiy stud in Kentucky Mr John Watson will train my horses In England as at present As to th racing situa ¬ tion here I cannot express an intelligent opinion I was abroad for my health and rest and while keeping in as close touch as I could avoided active work in connection with it and prefer not to say anything just at present presentAciording Aciording to report the defection in the Brighton Beach Itacing Association in I ho matter of its fall mooting will result in legal offorts by various own ¬ ers to collect the amount of purses won by their horses at the midsummer mooting ± 000 it is estimated is still owing to owners ownersIt It has boon decided to make slecplechasing a feature of the coming Jamestown Jockey Club meet ¬ ing and two or more crosscountry races are being arranged for each week Some of the more promi ¬ nent stables oxinctod to take part in the meeting are those of K T Wilson Jr David Dunlop James Arthur P M Civill Colonel it Neville W A Smith James Johnson and Henry Flippen II FlippenII Deriiham wired J P Mayberry today from Jamestown that every available stall was filled This had the effect of preventing Mayberry as well us Archie Zlmmer from shipping their horses down there to race as originally intended intendedIt It Is reported that Fred Burlew has sold his homestead at Gravesenrt for 13000
