RICH STAKES IN THE ARGENTINE In the English Racing Calendar of December 23 the Buenos Ayres Jockey Club advertises three of its stakes to be decided in 1010 which give a good idea of the prizes that arc hung up in the Argentine Republic It is a remarkable season in the South American republic for the reason that the races arc a part of the centeunary celebration but the prizes are worth mention Of the three stakes two of 5OOO argcntinos each have already closed The third which is worth 10000 argentinos the equival ¬ ent of iO000 to the winner has a closing August 0 All three of the stakes are open to the world and It is altogether likely that had they been adver ¬ tised in the United States they would have attractid some entries entriesThe The remaining and richest stake of the trio is to close August 0 and it is to be nin Novumlicr J It is the Carlos Pellegrini ami is a mile and seven fur ¬ longs for entire horses and mares of all ages The winner is to receive 50000 the second horse 5 000 and the third 2500 For this stake the entrance is 200 with an additional 100 to start There are two declaration dates of 50 and 125 each It is a welghtforagc race and under such eoiiditions many good ones eligible for a chance with the best of any country may be found in the United States and it is possible that some entries may yet lie made
