GOSSIP OF KENTUCKY STABLES Louisville Ivy January 29 Four of Colonel W E Applegates twoyearolds which have lieeu win ¬ tering at Churchill Downs were recently shipped to California for early racing on the coast which leaves fourteen youngsters of this age still in the care of trainer William Walker at the local track None of the lot Walker now has in charge will leave here until after the spring meeting Then the best of the bunch will be picked out and shipped to the metropolitan tracks In the care of the former jockey while the others with Colonel Applegates bunch of cripples Jupiter Joe Cmybal and Captain Kennedy will be raced at the Kentucky meetings and on the Canadian tracks Colonel Applegate thinks most highly of the following colts but trainer Walker says a filly in the barn can outrun them all allBav Bav colt bv McGee Frou Frou FrouBlack Black colt by Cesarion Hello Swift SwiftHay Hay colt by Woolsthorpe Lcopoldlna LcopoldlnaChestnut Chestnut colt by McGee Lucille Murphy MurphyLon Lon Johnson has about the biggest bunch of mature horse now at Douglas 1ark his string consisting of the fouryearolds All Red and Tom Hay ward and the threeyearolds Calash and Irlm I oily Tim lat ¬ ter was in the Camden Handicap at Lexington but as she has not developed as Mr Johnson would wish he declared her out of that event Mr Johnson is not shooting at stake game this season All Hod and Tom Hayward have wintered well and Calash has improved since lie raced at Latonia last fall fallJames James Gritlin has a bunch of twoyearolds In his barn at Douglas Park that are sired by Hurst Park the son of Kingston and Editha When GriUin got these youngsters as yearlings from the farm in Illi ¬ nois where they were bred and raised they were in puny condition but they now look good though small smallW W S Hopkins has a twoyearold halfbrother to The Picket by Woolsthorpe Voltario In training for the coming season Carroll Held who developed and raced The Picket has looked the youngster over and thinks he will do doW W J Ablwtt will train The Abliott and Fotsch this spring by driving them to a cart
