GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY TRAINING GROUNDS Louisville Ky February 15 Ed Alvey brought Friend Harry in from the Douglas farm yesterday and turned him over to trainer John Walters at Churchill Downs Walters will have the care of the halfbrother to Pink Coat until Pinkola and Colonel Rob Alveys two horses jiow racing iu Mi ci return libme in the carC of his regular trainer next month Alvey will nominate Friend Harry in all the stakes opened for cntrlt8 the coming spring and summer here and at Latonia and both he and Pinkola will more than likely be named among the entries in Canadian stakes inclifding the Toronto Cup CupLocal Local trainers at Douglas Park like the way the fouryearold Stolypin in W J Youngs stable lias spread out over winter Henry M Zieglcr the Cincinnati theatrical manager and turfman has a particular interest in Stolyplns future racing as he owns his dam Bermuda Lily and sold Young the colt after he had failed to win in his colors as a twoyearold Bermuda Lily is a sister to Father Tallent and is by Bermuda one of the best race horses the late Byron McClelland ever trained In fact that noted horseman would not concede that even Henry of Navarre was a better horsu than Ber ¬ muda and to his dying day always sang the praise of the son of Bersan BersanFighting Fighting Bob iu his preparation for the Kentucky Derby Is to have Maltbie as a trial horse Every morning at Churchill Downs walking or trottjng and in slow gallops George Beifs goodlooking candidate for the big Louisville race is led by Malt ¬ bie which trainer James Gass is pointing especially for the Suburban Handicap of litlO The sou of Deeriug has great weight concessions in the big eastern race MaKbie looks lusty and strong this winter and trainer Gnss believes he will round back the coming spring to the form which marked his good racing in California last winter He has not missed a feed since he went into winter quarters at Churchill Downs nor has be taken a lame step in any of his work so far Beif will race him in some of the overnight contests at the coming Louisville meeting and has named him as an entry in the Clark Handicap in which event he will go to thu post if trainer Gass regards him as thoroughly fit fitTrainer Trainer James F Davis has returned from Juarez The only horse ho took there to race was the live yearold gelding Greystecl which he sold before he left Mexico The son of AllanaDale and Aconitine went lame and Mr Davis doubts if the gray gelding will ever again race with much credit Davis cann back to Louisville to take up some youngsters which he will train this spring at Churchill Downs or Douglas Park They are twoyearolds which were bred and raised near Bardstown Davis also came home to push a case which has long been pending In the local courts The litigation is over the win ¬ nings and sale of the mare Lurulighter which Davis raced with much success some years ago The daughter of Lamplighter has for several years been in the custody of the courts on a stock farm near Lexington and has produce which arc also involved iu the litigation The amount involved is some 000 000John John I Carr the Lexington breeder is at a loss to understand what the Cleveland millionaire E S Burke Jr proposes to do with W II Daniel the sixvearold son of Woolsthorpe dam Colline by Hanover which has now been at his farm for over three years Carr says that the geldlug is in splen ¬ did condition and apparently as sound as horse can be but Mr Burke has given no intimation that he intends to have the son of Woolsthorpe trained or raced again W II Dnniel was one of the crack twoyearolds of 1JOfi and Burke paid 0000 for him at that age Some of his races were sparkling The horse went wrong and Carr has since had him at his fyrm near Lexington Colline the dam of W II Daniel is now at Hamburg Place being brtd on shares M II Tichenor the Chicago turfman looking after Mr Burkes interest in the mare The mare will have a twoyearold on the turf this season She is a half sister to French Park an unbeaten twoyearold W H Daniel was her first foal
