FAIN DISAPPOINTS HIS FOLLOWING FOLLOWINGCarman Carman Jockey Has a Poor Day at Tampa Track Rain Affects the Attendance AttendanceTampa Tampa Fla March 4 Adverse weather condi tions coupled with an ordinary card were responsible for a big slump in the attendance and lack of In ¬ terest in todays sport Heavy rains prevailed d tir ¬ ing the morning hours The sandy surface of the track however absorbed the moisture wonderfully and the going was fairly good Uncertainty about the mudrunning ability of most of the starters limited the betting and the ring quit loser Jockey Fain disappointed his big following by poor saddle work On Lois Cavanagh ho was astride much the host of the starters competing in the closing dash but Glasner outrode him on AVater Lake LakeIn In addition to Winning with the last named Glasner scored successes oil Malta in the second and Sorrel Top His other mounts Punky and Uncle Jim finished second and third in their respective races The public liegan the afternoon auspiciously when San Irimo backed from 6 to v to 4 to o took the opening dash R F Carmans Nattie BumpiK was favorite in the second and failed to place Malta winning in a sharp drive Avith the suddenly improved Oesa OesaMcAndrews McAndrews won the third as his rider pleased The running of the fourth race was attended by a surprising improvement in Dr Crook In a prior start when ridden by J Dennison lie made a poor showing Under Koerners handling he was today a sharp factor and beat all l ut Sorrel Top Merry Gift was aided to victory in the fifth by good racing luck for had not Glasner on Punky been forced to pull up at the start to keep from falling the Will ¬ iams lilly would have been beaten beatenM M Burton M Engelking and J T Temple will ship their strings at the close of the meeting to Jamestown for the racing that will be inaugurated there April 1 1Edward Edward Tribe who is at present chief assistant to starter Dade has been appointed starter for the Pensacola meeting W W Lyle has accepted the presiding judgeship The date for the opening of the meeting has not been fully decided on but it is thought that the Pensacola promoters will not be ¬ gin until after the close here hereJockey Jockey Morgan was suspended for the balance o the meeting by the starter for misbehavior at the
