MASKETTE POINTING FOE METROPOLITAN Now York March IS Ideal weather conditions continue to prevail and had the effect of bringing out a large number of horses at Sacepshead Bay and Gravoscnd tracks yesterday among them some ot the best in training Janes Howe had out several of the Kecne stars and the first to work were Maskette Mclisaiule and Infatuation Little Is known about the latter which has never raced In this country Melisantlc has improved wonder ¬ fully since her return to this country from England and nov looks like another lilly The trio were sent threeeighths in 40 They will not be hurried Maskette will be prepared for the Metropolitan which is her first stake engagement of the season Hilarious and Sweep are also entered in the Metro ¬ politan Handicap while Ballots first engagement o importance will be the Suburban Handicap at Shecpshtad Bay The lastnamed three will receive only light training until the season is further ad ¬ vanced Yesterday these three were merely gal ¬ loped threeeighths in 44 Metaphor Suffragist Grasmere and Seneca II were sent threeeighths in 42 They are In good condition and will soon be ready to race The Keene twoyearolds were sent quarters in 27 2S and 30 seconds Nothing in the way of fast work has been asked of anv of the two yearsolds yet but they arc all full of ruu and will be ready when called upon Of uponOf the Hildreth string Joe Madden Firestone Woodcraft Montgomery and Rose Queen were first on the track and they were worked threeeighths In 40 42 and 44 They are coming on nicely and will be ready for hard training next week Fayette King James Dalmatian Restigouche and Jeanne dArc were given about the same amount of work and are not being hurried at all King James is training along soundly and looks to be in fine con ¬ dition
