NO EACING IF MILLEE BILL PASSES Toronto Ont iMarch 24 The Globe today printed the following statement anent the racing situation in Canada CanadaIn In other seasons the conditions and value of the Kings Plate and other races to be run at the spring meeting of the Ontario Jockey Club were announced carlv in the year and the Plate entries closed March 1 With the uncertainty attendant on the present situation the clubs hands are tied and not only has there been no announcement of the Plate conditions hut it is stated that there may not be racing at all Secretary AV P Fraser said yesterday that the reason for the delay was to be found in the con ¬ ditions that would be created by the passage of the betting measure now before Parliament The Miller bill in its present form is so drastic that It would he impossible after its passage to carry on racing under desirable conditions and rather than become involved in such a situation the Ontario Jockey Club would abandon racing and Woodbine Park would be disposed of That may or may not have been the object sought liy the promoters of the bill but it could have no other result The other clubs in the Canadian Racing Associations have made no an ¬ nouncement but as their position is practically the same there is no reason to suppose they would at ¬ tempt to follow any other course which means the discontinuance of organized racing in Canada These clubs distributed a half million dollars among own ¬ ers and breeders last year
