In its first two years ol running it was a dash of a mile and three-quarters, with penalties and allowances, but in BMll it was mi.de a weight for age race and has remained such to ihis day. Its first winner. Thomas Cat. was a sell liig plater ol high degree and a capital stayer. Its second winner was Imp. the famous **oal Black Lady " beloved of all race goers east and west and one of our truly great race mares. Beginning with her year the Advance has been contested by wonderfully good race horses, a statement amply sustained bv the names ol Star Bright, goii Heels. Africander. Agile. Flip Flap. Irish Bad. Peter Pan. Ballot and Kitz Herbert as winners and Ktbella-rt. Advance uard. Jol-lsmith. Ofl Wells. Beldame. Brvn Mawr Whimsical Salvidere. Hessian. King James and Hilarious among its placed horses.
