: JOCKEY DUGAN IN TROUBLE BELMONT RIDER IS SUSPENDED AND HIS CASE REFERRED TO THE JOCKEY CLUB. Rough Riding in Race in Which Trainer James Rowa Uncovers Keene Crack Influences Stewards in Taking Disciplinary Action. New York. June 2S. — James R. Keene showed another high class two-year-old today in Lahore, a big chestnut son of the young stallion IMhi and Nora Creina. His performance in the Surf, in which lie beat a smart lield. was particularly impressive for the reason that in the early stages he raced greenly and to score had to come from last placo iu the final f:;rloug. He had Archduke for a running mate in tin- race and the pair, . after opening second choice, drifted to 5 to 1 at closing on the strength of a report that they could not run in the heavy going. As a matter of fact the track was not heavy, though it was slow from an early morning rain. The race was not without an unfortunate incident, for K. Dugan. who rode August Belmonts Footprint, the favorite, was guilty of rough tactics l hat carried Colston and Archduke all over the track. After the race the stewards suspended Dugan for the rest of the meeting and referred his ease to the Jockey Club. Action was also taken on charges brought by trainer James Rowe for J. R. Keene. who charged that in the Sluepsliead Bay Handicap, run last Thursday. Dugan. on Sir John Johnson, purposely carried Maakette out, permitting King .lames to come through on the rail ami win. These charges were dismissed. Many complaints have been made against Dugan and il is expected that the Jockev Club will deal out severe punishment to him. He is under contract to August Belmont and his suspension will leave the chairman of the Jockey Club without a first-class rider. Priscillian scored another easy victory in the mile condition race, iii which he met little opposition. Ronnie Kelso ran a sterling race over lie grass course when he took up 122 pounds ami nosed out Superstition in 2:n.".J for a mile and a ptarter. Shannon was winner of the six- and a hall furlongs handicap ami Imprint scored easily over a band of two-year-olds at three ipiarters over the grass course. in Wednesday and Thursday s| ecial horse shipments will be made from Sheepshead May to S. anion Pa., where a race meeting begins Juiv 2.
