RAIN BENEFITS CHURCHILL DOWNS TRACK. Louisville, Ky., August 22. — Rain having converted the Churchill Downs track into a condition suitable for work-outs, trainers will from now on tie active with their charges. The opening of the fall meeting at the Downs is Saturday. October 1, and little time is to be lost now in getting ready those racers quartered at Douglas Park, the Downs and others that will lie brought here this week from Latonia and elsewhere. W. H. Flzers stable, which has been here since the conclusion of the Latonia meeting, is in splendid condition. His two smart three-year-olds. Eye White SUM] Boca Grande, never appealed lietter and seem, in slow training, to have regained their condition of last year. His pair of three-year-old fillies. Grace Dixon and Daypeep, sis well as the four-year-old. Marine, are training excellently. Trainer William Crater has been sending Lexoline along at a fast clip in the last ten days and the black gelding is training soundly again. J. T. Ireland has applied for stable room at Churchill Downs and will come here direct from Saratoga with Cherryola. Star|M rt. Marsand and several others. Jockey George Mountain is assisting Mr. Ireland in training his horses. Mr. Ireland may race one of two horses at Lexington, hut his main stable will remain here until the Latonia meeting opens. T. C. McDowell will arrive here from Saratoga within a few days with practically all of the horses he has in training both in the east and on his ana. This fall probably will mark the last track appearance of his famous mare. Kings Daughter. She is nearly eight years old. anil her owner will send her to the stud next season. It is understood she has been boohed to lie mated with the Futurity winner, Yankee. On her performance this fall "will also depend Ellon a Dales racing another year. This Kentucky Oaks winner will soon be six years old. and her owner, it is said, has about decided to retire her to the stud when the present racing season etuis. She will also be mated with a Futuritv win-net, the bone beiag Ogden. the sire of Sir Martin. T. 1. Hayes is booked for early arrival here. He will come to Douglas Park from Windsor with his entire string. Mr. Hayes has the good colt. Oracle which he thinks will be a stake winner on the Ken tucky circuit this fall. J. Cook has arrived from Madison, Ind.. with •lack Right. He has been resling the horse during the summer and expects to campaign him success fatly on the Keutuekv circuit this fall W. E. Bidwell. secretary of the Kentinkv State Racing Commission, leaves here tonight to attend the meeting of that board on Wednesday. He savs that II. :. Bedwell will tile the ullidavils of Kiel Williams witli the commission on Wednesday and with it the canceled check lor MOO lo show the expense to which he went to get [he affidavit. The amount of the cluck was paid for detective services in the case. The Bedwell horses are still at Latonia and Mr. Bedwell ami his family have taken up their temporary residence at a prominent Cincinnati hotel. ,
