PROSPEROUS CONDITIONS AT OAKLAND OAKLANDBen Ben Benjamin writing in the San Francisco Chro ¬ nicle of Thanksgiving Day conditons at Oakland track makes the following comment commentDespite Despite the stormy weather fully SOOO people witnessed the running of the handicap It was by long odds the biggest crowd seen at Oakland track in two years and the receipts must have been close to reaching the highwater mark The attendance was much larger than generally expected and shows the great popularity of the sport with the California public Under ideal weather conditions there would doubtless have been 12000 people at the track de ¬ spite the 2 charged at the gate Many women graced the grandstand and the course presented a gala appearance The betting ring was fairly jammed with people and the layers found it impos ¬ sible under the prevailing system to handle all the money offered them
