GOSSIP FROM BLUE GRASS REGION Lexington Ky December 3 Training activities at the Kentucky Association course were virtually uspeudod this week because of bad weather and track conditions The eleventh annual Kentucky sale of thoroughbred stallions broodmares wean iings yearlings and horses in training under the auspices of the FasigTipton Company was the fea ¬ ture of the week Though prices ruled low not a single animal selling for as much as 1000 the consensus of opinion is that the average of 151C5 realized possibly with a few exceptions was all that they were worth Among the broodmares there were a few gool individuals and they were picked out by breeders and will go into studs in Kentucky and New Jersey The cheaper ones were bought up by dealers who will resell them in Canada and in south ¬ ern states statesThu Thu only export buyers in the market were II Blum of Paris France and M A Silvers of Val iwraiso Chile Blum was looking for the heavier types with plenty of height and short backs suit ¬ able for military and crosscountry purposes and was sorely disappointed There are not many such left hereabouts Dr St Clair Street of Kansas City was here for jumping material and got only half a dozen He will school his purchases at Kansas City and send them to the New York market next fall Mr Silvers bought eight out of the sale He got the stallion Meltonian and the mares Skyline Merry Papoose and Syd Ayres to resell in Chile and bought four yearlings on an order froni the Lima Jockev Club Lima Peru These yearlings are the chestnut colt by Charcot Silver Thistle bay filly by Cedarstrome Mary Rossenfoss chestnut colt by Flambeau Strathcona Belle and bay colt by Samson Banana BananaMeltonian Meltonian brought 700 and that was the top price for a stallion After he had been knocked down to Mr Silvers J B Viley proprietor of Stonewall Stud at Midway offered an advance which was declined declinedL L E Standefer of Wetaskin Alberta who bought Yorkshire Lad is a young Canadian ranch owner who is just going into the thoroughbred liorse busi ¬ ness He savs that northwestern Canada is opening up to racing and that he expects to maintain a stable and likewise do some breeding He has re ¬ tained George K Allen well known on the turf in the west as trainer He intends to make a short season with Yorkshire Lad at his place next spring and then put him back in training He is a young horse and is sound In addition to Yorkshire Lad Mr Standefer bought about a dozen head of mares and yearlings yearlingsC C C Smithson of Washington D C bought nine of the bestlooking yearlings sold and they were shipped today to the Benning track to be broken and trained by T F Coles The halfbrother to Race King for which he paid 800 is a grand looking individual The brown colt by Voter Midge for which Mr Smithson paid 000 is prob ¬ ably the largest yearling raised in Kentucky this year He is a handsome individual but it was his size that caused Mr Keene to cast him off He thought him too big bigMr Mr Keene had catalogued the brown colt by Delhi out of Fair Vision for sale because ho is small but at the last moment decided to keep him and wired an order of withdrawal Fair Vision died just after foaling this colt and he was raised on a bottle bottleTrainer Trainer Pete Coyne of the George J Long stable spent the greater portion of this week visiting his mother in this city At Churchill Downs Louisville Coyne has up the coming threeyearolds Exemplar and Enyoc and seventeen yearlings All of thciii he says are in good health and condition Exemplar is his candidate for the Kentucky Derby of 3011 3011AVill AVill McDaniel has decided not to go south this winter Instead he will remain here and handle a number of yearlings for various parties partiesKimball Kimball Patterson who abandoned the ranks of the trainers at the close of the Louisville meeting Is now in Los Angeles in Jhe real estate business businessFormer Former jockey Tommy Taylor is now employed as a clerk in the sales department of the Central Ken ¬ tucky Tobacco Warehouse in this city Jiunm Butler another former jockey is likewise engaged In the tobacco trade Butler however is a grower He has a fine farm in the neighborhood of Walnut Hills which he purchased out of his earnings In the saddle and this year he raised a big crop of to ¬ bacco baccoS S R Gilberts Stakes California Derby Los Angeles Derby and Crescent City Derby has been sold by JohnE Madden to George L Blackford of Dcnisou Tex and was shipped today to the Lone Star State where he is to go into the stud Sieelick is five years old and is by Planndes out of Ilithyia by Tammany TammanyCaptains Captains Short and Conrad purchased during the week six thoroughbred horses for use in the United States Army ArmyM M A Silvers left today for Valparaiso Chile with the thoroughbreds he bought at the sale and took along the marcs Clonsilla and Frenchie be ¬ longing to Irving H Wheatcroft Thev were mated in October to St Savin and will be sold by Mr Silvers for Mr Wheatcroft WheatcroftL L E Standefer and W H Owen left today for Wetaskin Alberta with three carloads of horses pur ¬ chased here publicly and privately during the week Mr Standefer bought the twoyearolds Delcassv and Rusty Coat from Dr J D Neet and three yearlings from Irving II Wheatcroft Including a black fljlv by Plaudit
