MISSOURIS PARIMUTUEL MOVEMENT Concerning the plan to bring about the restoration of racing in Missouri with parihiiitnel betting Barney Schrciber is quoted as follows by tlie St Louis Times TimesMy My idea is to have a bill introduced in the next legislature that will legalize racing in the state I would like to see a bill that would put racing here on the same footing It is on in Kentucky There they have a commission appointed by the governor which oversees everything that goes on on the race tracks Racing is under the direct control of this iMxly and never since it took charge has there been a blot on the escutcheon of the sport of the Blue Grass State StateThe The parlmutuel system is in use there exclu ¬ sively No bookmakers arc permitted on the tracks This I think removes the greatest objection most persons hold against racing Do away with the liookmakers they say and you will obliterate the greatest evil of the race track While I could hardly concur in that opinion I am willing to bow to tlie inevitable and accept whatever may be ac ¬ ceptable to the public publicThe The matter of reviving racing has been talked over informally in other parts of the state and a bill would be generally supported if it were intro ¬ duced Kansas City St Joseph Joplin and other cities have Itecome interested legislators have been approached and sounded on the subject and many have expressed a willingness to support such a bill billIf If some one can be found to father it a measure will almost certainly be placed before the assembly I have the moral supjiort of a number of influential St Louisans and have been promised aid when the time conies for action There will be no rush about the affair it being necessary to go slowly to avoid killing the movement in its infancy infancyTin Tin Times endorses Mr Schreibers idea in the fol ¬ lowing brief but emphatic declaration Mr Schreibers plan sounds good It is at least worth a trial Lets have legalized racing here
