NOTES OF THE TURF. The report is current that Jake noltman will be appointed to succeed Mars Cassidy as starter on the New York tracks. About 150 horses are being prepared at Denning for racing at Jamestown. The biggest stable is that of William Garth, comprising thirty-six liorses. Jockey Daltou McCarthy, who rode at Oakland for T. W. Fly nu, is at his Toronto home, visiting his parents. He will leave for Norfolk shortly to ride for John Hogan. Thomas H. McCreory ami Kimbell Patterson, both of whom were successful trainers on the metropolitan tracks, are reported to have gone into partnership iu chicken ranching iu California. W. W. Finn is promoting a plan for a new track, to be built between Spokane and Coenr dAlene. just over the Idaho state line. He talks of a sixty-days meeting there, beginning in August. John Rodegap, who is training Billiken for U. II. Wilson, says that the colt has been kept eligible for the Kentucky Derby on the- chance that tho race will be decided over a muddy, track, hi which sort of going Mr. Kodcgap considers Biliikcns ability to race ininieasureably superior as compared witlt a dry track. The demand for Englislj fhoorughbred stock in Russia is just now keen and is increasing. It was but recently announced that for its government stud bad been privately purchased for 9,000 from Mr. Nelko, the Santoi horse, Lagos, and now comes the news that William Waugli has sold Bcmbo, a son of Marco, to the same country.
