CRACK SISTER TO AMERICUS GIRL. Lady Americus Shows Great Speed — Marajax Sets a Record — Whisk Brooms Good Race — Statistics, London. Fug.. June 1:2. — Our racing between Epsom with its Derby and its Oaks and Ascot with its tremendous array of great stake noes and gorgeona pagfanliy of royal ami titled patronage, naturally suiiers in comparison, bm nevertheless presents many points of interest to those who love the noble sjiort. For instance, at Koiuptmi Park, June ." . being the Batnrday following the last day of racing at F.psoni. the Kcdfern Two-Year old Plate was won by the tilly Lady Americus. a daughter of the American home Ann -reus that was making bet tirst start. She is a sister of Americus Jill. A few years back the tatter was about the b.-st sprinter in Grant Britain and gave seine remarkable displays of great speed under crashing imposts. Rev young sister, like herself, is built on a libera! scale and has a beautiful stride. Among other engagements she is iu the rich Coventry Stakes at Ascot this week and from the speed she showed at Keuipton Bark l.as a chance of winning second to none. If she does win the Coventry, her right to rank with her famous siMor will not lie questioned. In time she may become equally a great public favorite. Another incident above the ordinary attended- the success of Marajax in winning the Manchester Cup at Manchester last Friday. This race is at a mile and a half and as it was worth the desirable sum of 2.N50 to the winner, naturally attracted a good detachment of our heat handicap horses, thirteen contesting the event. Orijro and Merry Task made the running at such a grenl pace that when Mara lax dually nailed OrigO near the tinisli and won bv a head. It was found that be had been forced to seme the unprecedented time of 2:27* in order to win. The best English record for a mile and a half up to this race was Spates 2:20 made at Newbury .Mine 2." . IMS, Marajax is a Manchester Owned horse and local pride led to his bring a heavily backed favorite at •" to 2. Ma success naturally proving Immensely popular. The Manchester meeting als. provided the stable of II. P. Whitney with its tirst noteworthy success of the year. Intil this came off Mr. Whitneys for tunes on the turf have bean of the worst. Borrow bad a fever last winter and la thin and deficient in Strength and muscle. I.ady Frivoles Illy has such bad forelegs that she is hard to fit for racing. Baahtl has not taken kindly to the English climate ami tracks. Iron Mask has shown speed, but h cs not stay. All Gold has done little and the two year-olds have been disappointing. Therefore It is little cause for wonder that trainer Jack Jnyners famous war cry could almost be beard from Manchester to Liverpool as Whisk Broom swept home victorious ill the 96,000 Sail. id Borough Handicap at three-quarters nf a mile The Irish coil Great Surprise waa a confidently supported favorite at 13 to s and Whisk Broom an outsider at 100 b 7. but he de fenced the favorite easily and ran six furiOUga in 1:111. carrying 128 pounds, it may be ■ token that improvement* in the fortunes of the popular Ann rl can stable is approaching. Another American owner. James It. Keene. also had a slice of favor at Manchester when his two rear-old colt Sunulium won the John OGauut Plate. There can be little ib.iibt that, though he has not on all occasions done his liest in public. Al cantata II. hi tin- lust Busang the Fundi tlir year olds, and lie had little difficulty in winning tin prii du Jockey Club French Derby yesterday for Baron de Bothscblld, beating Oombourg and Cuvallu into second and third places respectively. Whatever fortune may have attended the venture had M. E. Blanc sent either Lord Burgoyno or Shetland over to take part in the F.psom Derby, he has had bad luck with those colts when they have come up against Alcantara II. Last month the tirst named was only third to Baron de Rothschilds representative lor the 1rix La Bochette at Paris, and on the same ground a week later Shetland was easil disponed of by a couple of lengths by the son of Berth and Toison dOr in the ITix Lupin. That there was nothing wren;; about that race yesterdays Derby result plainly shows, and it SeeUM in every way likely that had Alcantara II. been sent to Kpsnm he might have troubled the best of ours, though that he would have beater! Sunstar patriotism forbids us to believe. In any case, yes-terdaya winner stands out anions his native rivals much as J. B. Joels colt does anions his on this side of the channel. Healer, which won the Austrian Derby for Baron .Springer, was bred in this country, his owner buy ins the dam. Dear I. adv. iu foal to Santrv. at the Newmai-ket December sadei of ii 07 for ,":!0o from II. F. Beddington. Hear Ludy was one of Lord Ronebery8 breeding, by Ladaa, out of Ploridiana, by lb nil Or. With an Austrian Derby winner amongst bis second crop of foals Sanlry has not been long in asserting himself. His majesty has entered Mirabeau. Iintadeau. riame Flower. Sweet Alison and Dainia at the Newmarket lust July meeting, their races dosing on Tuesday last. For the Liverpool July meeting Mirabeau and Mad Meg have been entered. Franconi. Simuliuin and Blarney Stone were in the batch of nine yearlings that J. R. Keene seal into Butters stable from America last year. Thursdays winner of the John OGattnt Plate, though not a his one. is very shapely and all quality. Never for a stride did he leave the contest in doubt. Sobieski. which was unplaced to Sunstar in the Derby, has arrived at Chanlilly to complete his preparation fur the Grand Irix de Iaris under the chaise of A. Planner. F. Tarn] will have the mount on the son of John OGauut, as at Epsom, wliile he will also ride Piquet in the Irix de Scilicet Marne. Christinas Daisy is under orders to leave Nether-avon for Ireland, with a view to an engagement at he Leopard stow ii Royal meeting on July 10. To celebrate his victory in .the Bnsjona Derby George Stern has given a donation of 5oo franca to the jockeys hospital at Chantilly. Sunstar is doing well and it is understood will make his next start in the St. laser, for which he will be given a special preparation. Snnslurs brilliant succession of victories have placed J. B. Joel so far in advance of all competitors that, early in the year as it is. he is prac tlcally assured of the leadership of Englands win Btng owners of Bill. The stable has other winning resourced besides Sunstar and now seems in an Impregnable position. The owners with .."..ikhi or saare won by their stahhs are the following: Wins Races Owner. Horses.
