I LEAMENCE BEATS NIMBUS D. RILEYS CONSISTENT RACER SCORES IN OVERNIGHT HANDICAP AT LAT0NIA. Jockey Glass Fined 00 and Suspended for Re« mainder of the Meeting for Foul Riding and an Attack on Fellow Jockey. Cincinnati, O., June 29. — There was considerable snap to th,- racing at I.alouia this afternoon, the improved caliber of the starters stimulating speculation and producing keener contests. Weather and Hack conditions were once more ideal and a big crowd witnessed the sport. The handicap at one mile, which featured tin- card, resulted in an interesting Bfbrlasaie and brought about the defeat of Nimbus by the consistent Leametico in fast time. Nimbus a* a top heavy favorite and probably was best, but was none too well ridden and succumbed to the challenge of Leamence in the final furlong. Iu a few more strides Mary Davis would have beaten Nimbus for second place. Jockey t;iass will be seen in the saddle no more during the Latonia meeting, having been fined 00 and suspended for the rest of the meeting as an aftenaath of rough riding in the second race while astride Tourist. He interfered palpably with Mary Kmily and pracfically put her out of the running by crowuing her agahatt the inner fence on the lower turn out of the backstretch. On his return to the Jockeys quarters after his suspension, he attacked Jockey A. Thomas, the complainant and rider of Man Kmily. Judge Price promptly assessed a fine of 0o n garnet tin- belligerent rider and probably will recommend the revocation of his license as punishment for his recent rough and unsatisfactory riding. Tie- Reach and Parkview were the only outstanding favorites to score during the afternoon, but all the winners received strong support. The Reach took the opener commandingly from B. Airy. John Markleta area back the purchase price of Tourist when that colt won the second race from Working Lad. The latter was lucky to take second money, as with a clear course Mary Fniily would have beaten him. Parkviews recent letup proved beneficial, for she won in impressive fashion. Though appearing a forlorn hope at the half-mile ground, Loftua persevered with Leaaaeace ami was rewarded by victory over Nimbus in the handicap. Fireman, favorite in the fifth race, got away last and finished third to Rell Horse and I.ackrose. The closing race furnished its disappointments in the lwor showings of John Furlong and First Peep, which pair brought up in the rear. Short Order winning from the suddenly improved Vaneii, with Claudia in third panes. The time of the race, 2:."i9J, was four seconds faster than the former track record for the distance held by Syria since October 25. 1S99. Beglstrar Bowe notified T. C. McDowell today that the name Senator Gittlns, claimed for his Yankee — Fancywood colt, could not be allowed and Mr. Mc-Ihiwell chose Nonpareil. Dr. Leach has sufficiently recovered from his illness to be able lo resume his duties and will he at his imst on Saturday next.
