MCAHEY IN GREAT FORM JAMES FITZSIMM0NS JOCKEY WINS FOUR SUCCESSIVE RACES AT LATONIA. * Bourbon Beau Rons Mile and Seventy Yards In Time That Equals Track Record for Distance in Scoring Over Good Opposition in Handicap. Cincinnati. O.. July 5. — Skillful riding on the part of .jockey MeOabey featured todays racing. The midget pilot scored four of his mounts consecutively. He began his successes in the opener astride Belle Hampton, an estreme outsider, and wound up with Bourbon Beau in the handicap, which was fourth on the card. In each Instance he was forced to exercise his greatest skill to get the verdict. Ho might have won another purse with John Furlong in the closing race but for frequent and costly interference to which that horse was subjected. In comparison with yesterdays big attendance todays patronage was light, but it was an enthusiastic crowd that went out to the Milldale track. Big fields, except in the handicap, made up todays program and puzzled the speculators. Favorites fared none too well. Delaney and Bourbon Beau being the only pronounced choices to win. Most of the contests were interesting, with plenty of action throughout. In the feature race Bourbon Beau ran a mile and seventy yards in 1:428, which equaled the track record and was within one-fifth of a second of the American record for the distance, made yesterday at Fort Erie by Plate Glass. Had he been urged at the end he unquestionably could have made a new record for the distance. The tmwii Idv fields and inevitable crowding that came as an outcome of the numerous starters In each race brought several unexpected results, among which were B"lle Hamptons victory in the opener and High Ranges in the sixth. Syringa was by far the best in the opener, but was beaten by a close margin as a result of being pulled up soon after the start. .Superior riding on MeCaheys part accounted for The Reachs victory-in the second race, for which Kaiser was the favorite. Delaney seemingly was best in the third, but had to be shaken up to stall off Beu Double. The diminutive J. Allen was lucky to gain the victory in the fifth race with Beach Sar.d. as he contributed to a bad jam at a critical period in the stretch drive, but the claim of foul lodged by T. Koerner on Naughty Lad was not albwed. John Furlong was much the best in the closing race, won by High Range, but met with much interference and brought up in fourth place. General Manager Huchmeister is arranging for a sweepstakes, having for its object the bringing together of The Manager and Worth. The conditions of the race call for an entrance fee of 00, with ,0oo added by the association. The distance Is to be five and a half furlongs, with the further stipulation that The Manager and Worth start and that good weather and track conditions prevail. It is expected that in additiou to The Manager and Worth, the owners of Wheelwright and Presumption will take a chance, as each will be getting five to one for 00. The winner is to take the entire stakes. The race is intended for the latter part of next week and will undoubtedly attract a tremendous throng of spectators. Jockey T. Bice was suspended for six days by the starter for disobedience at the post. Some of the owners who shipped to Chicago for the two-days meeting at Hawthorne returned today. They were enthusiastic over the immense turnout of racing devotees and spoke hopefully of a possible resumption of the sport in Chicago in the near future. W. EL Karrick will ship all the horses In his charge to Saratoga at the conclusion of the meeting here. He does not speak hopefully of the eastern racing outlook, but thinks that a short session of racing will be conducted at the Spa this season. J. W. May will ship his entire string to Windsor next week. Caut. J. T. Williams announced today that Governor Gray would at the close of the local meeting be sent to Lexington to rest until the fall racing begins on the Kentucky tracks. Governor Gray will be nominated for the four-mile Endurance Stakes to be run the coming fall. Presiding Judge Price was notified today by Judge Martin Nathanson of the Salt Lake track that the contract troubles of jockey Rooney had been adjusted and that ridor is now at liberty to engage mounts. The boy will enter the employ of Henderson and Hogan. Jockey Taplin refrained from riding today because of his injuries. H. P. Headley of Lexington was a first-time visitor at the track this season. There are now eighty-two horses on the preferred list of eligihles for starting. T. C. McDowells crack two-year-old colt. The Mating, r, figured in a sensational bit of work this morning when, with a boy weighing 115 pounds in the saddle, he went as follows: Quarter in 23i, three-eighths in 35$. half mile in 47it, five-eightha in 1:00?. three-quarters in 1:13?. This is the best work of the season to the credit of a two-year-old, pnd was part of The Managers preparation for his Cincinnati Trophy engagement next Saturday.
