, 1 MADMAN IN WINNING FORBI CARRIES COLORS OF H. G. BED WELL TO VICTORY IN FEATURE RACE AT BUTTE. Selling Race Hostilities, Precipitated by Bidding Up of Tommy McGee, Likoly to Hoik Kacinff in Montana Mining Town. Butte, .Mont.. July 24. While todays card was lacking in quality, tlio largest fields of the meeting faced the barrier and the largo crowd present was furnished with sport that was highly interesting, the finishes being close and well contested. Followers of form had an unprofitable day, as only one first choice succeeded in getting in front. A handicap at six furlongs was the feature of the afternoon and served to Introduce to the local public Madman, a fast sprinter from the Bedwell stable. Pay Streak found the most favor with the public, but was unequal to the task assigned him. Although showing good speed, the finish found him a beaten off third. Madman was the winner, with Fern L. second. Evelina was the good thing of the afternoon, having been heavily backed by G. H. Keenc and his connections away from here as well us attracting good support in the ring. J. Hochrino carried off the winning honors of the afternoon by scoring a double with Marigot and Oxer, each of which attracted extensive support. The bidding up of Tommy McGee in the fifth race by II. G. Bed-well and tho consequent runup of Oxer in the last race by F. W. Doss, indicates that tho halter man is here and that further activities may be expected. Colonel Jack, owned by 0. Turck, dropped dead while at exercise this morning.
