NOTES OF THE TURF. Harry .Payne Whitneys Paradise ran second in the Wellesbourne Nursery Handicap of 200 sovereigns at the AVarwick meeting in England Monday. At Chantilly, in France Sunday Frank J. GouldV Conti la Belle won the Prix de Scoville. W. IC. Vauderbilts Sightly ran second in the Prix la No-nette. James R. Kcene, who was operated on for stomach trouble in England Sunday, rallied well and his condition is encouraging. There are no signs of complications. The Prix de la Chesnioye, run at Compicgno in France yesterday, was won by II. B. Duryeas Mahthorpc. In the Prix des Avenues, Eugene Pfizers Hiawatha finished second. It. T. Wilson, president of the Saratoga Racing Association, say a determined effort will be made to get the Gittins racing bill through the Assembly at Albany when the Legislature reconvenes on Wednesday. The racing interests have not been idle since the lawmakers adjourned in July, and they really believe that the bill will become a law. But in some quarters the impression prevails that Governor Dix will not atiix his signature if the Gittins measure reaches him. New York Sun.
