HOPES FOR BETTER CONDITIONS HERE. New York, January 2.1. — Before sailing for Germany, trainer James II. McCormlck, who again will handle the big racing stable of Baron Oppenheim, said : Some day i hope racing will be revived in this country. If the reformers here knew how American turfmen are treated in Europe they would open their eye-. The Integrity of American racing u recognised oa the other side and trainers and ockeys who have gained experience here are in high favor. Bacing has obtained a wonderful hold in Germany aad Austria. The sport is well governed and many American methods have been brought Into play. The result is Unlimited prosperity not only in those countries, but In England and France, where the personal liberty of the public i- not interfered with. I trained horses for thirty years in this country and it i- natural that I should feel interested iu the future of the American turf. Baring here has been misrepresented and misunderstood, but the time is eoaanag when a reaction will set in ami the thoroughbred horse will again be a public idol. Then, maybe, Ill remain here among Meads In spite • f my success abroad and the magnificent treatment I have received."
