JUAREZ RACING IS RESUMED PEOPLE OF EL PASO TURN OUT IN FORCE TO SEE THE SPORT. Uncle Ben Beats Kootenay and Meadow in Handicap — Edwin Gaylord. Changes Trainers— Jack Atkin Retires from Betting Ring. L"! Pa-o. Tex.. February 0. — An extra large attend-aace marked the resumption of racing at Jus res this afternoon. The respite of five days evidently whetted the appetites of every lover of the sport in LI Paso ami everything passed off just as if there had been no insurrection at all. The weather conditions were perfect for racing. Only one favorite scored, but the contests were exceedingly exciting, with close finishes the rule. The handicap was won by the lightly weighted Incle Ben. which came from behind with a tie ineudous burst of speed and beat the consistent Kootenay. Meadow was possibly best in the race, but received a bungling ride at the hands of Jockey Moleswortb and finished a fast going third. Jack Alkin was missing from the ranks of the lav-efs. he having departed for l.os Angeles some days ago. His place in the line was taken bv Enoch Hughes, of Denison. I"e. Edwin Gaylord left this morning for Denver. Before leaving Mr. Gaylord transferred his horses that have been in charge of Henry McPaniel to U. C. Benson, who will train them in future for the Denver mining magnate. The stable 1 inwlsls of Setback. Anne MoOee. Anion, iteal Star and Kenneth. The stewards have restored to good standing the horse Whiddea, owned by J. Cuneo. and also Jockey Ira-eh. who rode the horse at the time of hi- suspension. Gemmell was bid up from $.100 to 00 by II y Offutt and was bid iu by W. C. Clancv.
