FILLIES PROMINENT AMONG PLATERS PLATERSToronto Toronto Ont May 3 The predominance of fillies among the prominent candidates for the Kings Plate affords another ground for regarding it as an open race Fillies are apt to be unreliable at this season and only three have won the Plate in the last fourteen years They were Butterscotch Lyd ¬ dite and Shimoncse all from the Valley Farm As the brown and yellow will not be carried by ti filly this vcar that sequence cannot be maintained un ¬ less by Amherite the sister to Shimonese bred at the Valley Farm but now in different ownership Of all the Platers training at Woodbine practically only one of those attracting attention is a colt the Brookdale Farms Heresy The fillies arc working well but none stands out like a champion and It is hard to get away from the Idea that in a season when they are as good as or better than the colts the winner will be easy to pick pickThe The dogs were up Wednesday morning and the gallops at Woodbine had to be done well out from the rail The London Plater Philis knocked down two of them in her work and yet completed the mile In 147 an excellent performance She was alone and did the first half in 53 and threequar ¬ ters in 120 The Davics Plater Gold Bud showed good speed going a quarter in 25 half In 52 and six furlongs In 118 She finished the mile in 147 147Another Another Plate filly to work was Calumny a hand ¬ some threeyearold that 4Wes Sherrard Is training for Mr Gorman of Ottawa She went the first quar ¬ ter in 2G a half in 53and threequarters in 122 the mile in 151 finishing out the mile and n quar ¬ ter in 222 Sati took 150 to do her mile and was not saved savedThe The handsome Hearts of Oak from the Oakville Stable displayed possession of speed in keeping with his looks He put in a quarter up the back stretch in 23 seconds the best of the season and the Canadianbred youngsters probably will find him hard to beat Another twoyearold from the same stable the filly Ondramida did a quarter in 24 and pulled np threeeighths in 39 The threeyear old Ondramon went a bit farther and faster than his halfsister His first quarter was run In 24 and threeeighths In 37 pulling up the half mllp in 51 St Bass going sound and kind Showed a quar ¬ ter in 24 throeeighths In 37 and eased up the half In 52 Ambcrite a Plater whose make and shape always commands attention cantered a quar ¬ ter in 24 Lllhurne did five furlongs in 105 the first half mile In 51 and was repeated half a lile in 52 52The The twoyearold Corflamlx went threeeighths in 40 and John Bowman a trifle slower
