racing in the near future Grover Baker was an arrival today at the Downs but later loft for Lexington to bring back his noted longdistanco mare First Peep which lias not been raced since last fall and arrived here He is In the employ of A F Dayton who also holds the contract on the good rider C Peak Mr Dayton has only two horses in training here but he is talking about shipping soon from the winter ranch at Itcno Nevada some stock of his own raising He has a trio of threeyearold fillies at the ranch which have never been trained they l eing by the noted horse Key del Sierras and out of the good race mares Soufricre Serenity and Can toon He recently lost a twoyearold by Rey del Sierras Soufriero and lias only one twoyearold filly but all three marcs now have yearlings at the ranch M Dayton bad the misfortune to lose his great mare Neva Lee Sho was out down in a race at Oakland Cal and though able to get to the ranch never lived to drop her colt One of the great races shi ran was in thq Twin City Handicap that year worth 14055 in1 which she was Just beaten by the lightweighted Fine Cloth Miller rode a few races at Charleston last winter merely to get in form for the Kentucky circuit racing He can ride as light as ninetyeight pounds One of the Dayton horses he now has here Ragman pulled up soro in bis work today todayTod Tod Cella racing partner of Lon Johnson who has a string of
