AFTEEMATH OF THE KENTUCKY DEEB7 Contestants All Come Out of Great Contest in Good Condition Gossip Eegardingr Winner Louisville Ky May 13 All of the Derby con ¬ testants came out of Saturdays race In good condi ¬ tion Worth particularly showed no aftereffects though the race was apparently a severe one for him It is taken for granted that he was just a trillc short and that the race will thoroughly fit him for future efforts The Derby left unsettled the question of the relative superiority of Worth and The Manager with the result that there is some talk of a match race between the two to determine the matter matterMaj Maj T C McDowell was one of the most disap ¬ pointed turfmen at Churchill Downs when he saw the track after Friday nights hard rain When he saw no chance for the sun to come out and dry the course to any extent he quickly decided to scratcli The Manager He said I learned last summer at Latonia that my colt did not fancy heavy or muddy going On a dry track I think The Man ¬ ager could have won the Kentucky Derby this year but I have made up my mind never to start him again in the mud I will probably start hini in the Clark Handicap next Saturday and If a fast track prevails I will race him against Worth in the La tonia Derby and I will say now that I think The Manager will win winFrank Frank Taylor who saddled Worth for the Derbv said of that colts performance He ran up to my expectations I looked for him to run iis he did go to the front from the start and make a hare and hound chase of the event He misled some of the horsemen by his work since I reached here with him but he did not deceive me as I am aware that he Is a poor work horse Jockey horseJockey Shilling expressed himself as follows 1 had no doubt as to the outcome of the race after a quarter of a mile had been rim He was well with in himself until the last furlong and only faltered at the hmsh because he was shy a race of such n distance to make his condition perfect He will run even better in my opinion the next time he goes postWorth to the post Worth is an everyday horse not one that runs only on Sunday remarked H C Hallenbeck in di cussing the outcome of the race with Capt J H Rees Charles Hughes Alex Labold and other horse horseAny Any horse that gets off in front and stays there throughout the race is a real race horse interposed interposedlilptUlIl lilptUlIl
