VALUABLE RACE AT ST LOUIS Joseph A Murphy Announces Conditions of St Louis Cup 3000 Event to Be Run September 25 25St St Louis Mo July 10 Secretary Joseph A Murphy of the Universal Exposition Company which proposes to revive the famous St Louis Fair at Maxwellton beginning September 21 next lias au I nounced the conditions of the 3000 race for thor ¬ oughbreds that will be a feature of the fair The race will be known as the St Louis Cup and will be run oil September 25 under the following con ¬ ditions ditionsSt St Louis Cup for thoroughbreds threeyearolds and upward at two miles and a quarter to be run September 25 1012 Purse 3000 of which 700 to second 200 to third and 100 to fourth nfo entrance or starting fee An owners handicap Entries to close September 1 1912 Each owner to handicap all the horses entered and the average of weights assigned by the owners to l e the weights for the race Weights due September 14 Tlie owner of the winning horse to be presented with a silver cup Two miles and a quarter quarterAnother Another feature will be the Hemouut Endurance Rare for fiveyearolds and upward of any breed that comes within army specilications for a purse of 1000 of which 200 to second 100 to third and 50 to fourth Horses not to exceed 153 nor to be less than fifteen hands and approximately weighing from I30 to 1100 pounds If ridden to carry 150 pounds and if driven to have that amount of weight in the sulky Twenty miles at any gait The Association reserves the right to rule out any horse when In the opinion of the judges it is too xhausted to continue continueSecretary Secretary Murphy was for several years a judge of racing at the old Fair Grounds track when the IKirt nourished here It was his idea to have i running race at the Universal Exposition lie de ¬ nies that any effort is being made to revive racing as it was conducted before the brooders law was repealed repealedThe The only running race carded for our meeting will be on the opening day said he to a reporter If it proves attractive there may be other eon tests in conjunction with the trotting races between September 21 and September 0 0The The race is to be a two and onequartermile contest I have been in communication with noted horse breeders including Messrs Hclmont Kcene Whitney Schorr and Wilson and I do not doubt that some of the finest horses in America will be shipped here hereThe The race will be timely In Louisville this year they are to have a fourmile endurance race under the direction of the Kentucky State Racing Com ¬ mission Our event will give owners a splendid op ortunity to bring their horses here and fit them for the endurance test by running them two and one quarter miles in competition competitionWe We will give a 3000 purse and there will be no entrance or starting fee The purse will come out of the gate money Hookrnakuig will not be tolerated toleratedThe The Universal Exposition Company is unalterably opposed to the resumption of bookmaking in Mis ¬ souri If racing is to come back for a short period we would be opposed to any meeting which would last more than two weeks
