EXPLAINS THE MANAGERS POOR SHOWING The Louisville CourierJournal publishes the fol ¬ lowing from tho pen of its correspondent on tho Canadian circuit circuitJockey Jockey Koerner gives an explanation of the failure of Tho Manager to make a more Imposing showing in the Dominion Handicap at Fort Erie by saying that owner McDowell had instructed him that in case the great threeyearold appeared at any stage to be beaten not to punish him Major McDowell told the rider he cared only for first money In the event and ordered Koerner to ease the son of Voter the moment he appeared to bo beaten The Manager got the worst of the start and was also repeatedly bumped and knocked about in the racev As far as he Is concerned turfmen think that in handicapping his performance it should be thrown out and that the next time he meets Star Charter and Froglegs he will reverse the running of the race raceThe The Dominion Handicap developed two likely Kentucky Endurance Stakes cligiblcs In Star Charter and Countless The latter showed no sign of lame ¬ ness when he pulled up and is seemingly training soundly for the big Louisville race If nothing goes wrong with him Star Charter is a sure starter in the Endurance Stakes and at present he looms up as a dangerous candidate candidateThe The Manager has no other stake engagement at this meeting as he is not entered in thcr Canadian Sportsman Handicap next Saturday and unless he starts in some overnight race he may not be seen again in public until the Hamilton meeting opens a week from next Saturday
