EMRIES AYEEAGE FORTY NOMINATIONS FOR DOUGLAS PARK STAKES HIGHLY SATISFACTORY Free Lances HighClass Performances Earn for Him HimDistinction Distinction Conferred Upon No Other Horse in inGcorgo Gcorgo J Longs Stable Except Sir Huon Louisville Ky August S Frank Bnien assist ¬ ant to John Hachmeister manager of Douglas Park today completed the compilation of the entries for the stake events to lx decided this fall at Douglas Park including the Douglas Park Inaugural Handi ¬ cap to be run September 15 Beechmont Stakes September 21 Autumn Stakes September 20 Boule ¬ vard Stakes September 28 Prospect Stakes handi ¬ cap October 2 and Cardinal Stakes October 5 The average ntimter of nominations in each event is forty which is highly pleasing to the Douglas Park oliicials The entries include aU of the good horses in training Manager trainingManager Hachmeister wired today from New York that MondayTrainer he will not return here until next Monday Trainer Peter Coyne had the great threeyearold Free I ance weighed today The Latonla Derby winner tips the scales at 1011 pounds When Free Lance was brought to the Downs from Latonla last June he weighed 1004 pounds The best work doun by Free Lance since he raced at Latonla was on Timdday of this week He cantered a mile in 140 Free Lance is enjoying all possible luxury His stall is a double one and originally was built for Sir Huon George J Longs Kentucky Derby winner Until Free Lance developed into his present re ¬ markable form Mr Long owned no horso that ho thought worthy of occupying Sir Huons quarters Trainer Coyne says that the only thing that will prevent Free Lance from filling his Kentucky En ¬ durance Stakes engagement on October 7 provided he trains well up to the date of that race will be track conditions Free Lance has shown an aversion to mud Both Mr Long and trainer Coyne hav agreed not to again run the colt in heavy going There are twentytwo racers in the Long string eight yearlingsW of which are yearlings W S Trevey who is training the sensational Hawthorn for C F Buschemeyer has eleven horses in his string at the Downs Many racers have been added to tho Buschemeyer band a majority of them having been secured from Lon Jones stock farm In addition to Hawthorn the horses are Toplaiid the fouryearold Joyance the threeyearold Ethel Samson and the twoyearolds Politeness Bluo Jay Prospect Starberta and Doctus Mr Trevey has also taken up two yearlings one a chestnut colt by Cunard and the other a bay colt by Gold Heels The latter is a brother to the speedy Martino H He has been named in honor of trainer Trevey Hawthorn is in grand condition and has taken on much tlesh since he raced last at Latonia His trainer sees no reason why Hawthorn should not race as well the coming fall as ho did in his early race at Juarez Lexington and Louisville The Buschemeyer stable will send an old horse or two and several of its maiden twoyearolds to race at Lexington Hawthorn probably will not be started until the Douglas Park meeting opens opensW W O Toplin after a brief sojourn here arranged to have Neil Enright take up Maczie and Cliff Top which had l een turned out at the Joplin farm at Eiizabethtowu Ky This gives Mr Enright eight racers in training here The others In the string are Parkview Island Queen Alvire Baythorn Louis Katz and Forehead Blsick Friar in the Joplin string has been sent to the farm and will not be trained nor raced until next spring springBourbon Bourbon Boau by order of his owner T Collins has IKJCII shipped to New York with the hope that the great racer will again stand training next year Bourbon Beau fractured his tendons last spring at Churchill Downs but he seems to have almost recov ¬ ered from the injury Ha limps slightly slightlyG G M Odom arrived from Canada and proceeded to Lexington to purchase several yearlings Ho will race on tho Kentucky circuit this fall fallDr Dr G F Stericker of Springfield 111 is a new comer to the turf He will race Bachelor Boy and Saxon Baron The trainer is J Barton Bachelor Boy Is a fouryearold Over a fast course at the Downs he worked a half mile in 47
