LEXINGTON MEETING OVER KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION WILL BOOK A PROFIT INSTEAD OF DEFICIT EXPECTED Sport of Better Grade Than Generally Looked For ForWhen When Meeting Began Opinion Entertained That ThatLexington Lexington Meetings Should Be Shorter Lexington Ky September 14 The Kentucky As sieiation will clear between 5000 and 0000 on the fall meeting of thirteen days that closed hero this afternoon This speaks volumes for the knowledge and work of President Catesby Woodford Secretary Carrot t D Wilson Racing Secretary William II Shelley and track superintendent James P Ross for they were about the only people identified with the association in the directorate and management who were not putting up a poor month and com ¬ plaining before the gates were opened that the period was too long that there would be a scarcity of horses and that the stockholders would have to go down into their pockets to make up a deficiency It is true that three Saturdays and Labor Day were among the dates but they did not prove so much better than other days as the public might have supposed they would The weather for the greater number of days was broiling hot decidedly not tho sort of weather that could be vailed ideal for racing The attendance kept tip quite well and tho amount of money handled in the mntiiel betting grew larger in volume as the meeting progressed The program that Secretary Shelley prepared was so attractive that from the material that many another racing secretary would have discarred as hopeless he got in the greatest number of instances interesting con ¬ tests Thirteen days is unquestionably too long for a fall meeting or even a spring meeting in Lexington for beyond nine days it gets to resemble a grind but no one after this can have any li ¬ cense to say that fall racing here will not prove successful successfulThe The racing was clean throughout and the judges did not find occasion once during the meeting to reprimand or reprove a jockey trainer or owner Presiding Judge Thomas J clay and his associates Messrs Garrett Wilson and Will Shelley are to be congratulated upon this feature of the meeting The work of starter Mars Cassidy at the barrier was generally speaking good though in a couple of in ¬ stances his assistants marte his starts look bad by holding horses The men were exonerated of wrongful intent intentAs As to the riding talent here there was no star among them The best of them was not much com ¬ pared with the real saddle arrlst now so few that a man with some of his fingers missing could count them on one hand At that the boys in the saddle at this meeting did not ride so roughly as at other meetings over the local track trackThe The racing this afternoon was marred by a bad spill in the third race but it was not due to rough riding Trainer J Sweeney froze the knees of J Franks threeyearold Millo just before the horses went to the post for the third race at six furlongs The application was more than liberal and since it is quickly penetrating and quite be ¬ numbing it is likely that when Millo got to the post he could not discern that he had any knees at all Just as the barrier went IIP Millo leaped to the front but as be made a stride or two he came near falling Jockey McCabe took him up so quickly and he ran on to the end of ttie first quarter where he stumbled to his knees goi up and went down again this time turning a somersault arid throwing the jockey high into the air The horse broke a leg and had to be destroyed but his rider escaped witli a dislocated wrist bone and a two inch scalp gash in the back of his head Dr Maguire said the lad was considerably shaken up in addition to this but he was not internally injured injuredMiss Miss Thorpe Barsac and Oriental Pearl winners respectively of the first three races on the getaway day card were at long prices Sea Cliff Lord Mar ¬ shall and Yanker all first choices won the threo closing races racesJockey Jockey Bnxton vas substituted for McCabe on Yanker in the closing race because of tho injury to the Weir rider McCabe will probably be out of the saddle for a week as a result of his dis ¬ located wrist wristMost Most of the race followers who were here for the meeting left tonight on the special for Louisville LouisvilleJanves Janves Rowe and veterinarian McCtillough were among the track visitors this afternoon afternoonFrank Frank E Brown announced this afternoon that tho yearlings he purchased for J P Gray this morning would be left at tho Idle Hour Farm to be broken and that they would be put in active training next spring Mr Brown spoke hopefully of a possible resumption of racing in New York next season seasonW W II Laudeman who will act as supervisor of the mutuel betting at all the Kentucky tracks will leave for Louisville tomorrow night nightTrainer Trainer J O Keono saddled two of todays win ¬ ners Barsac and Lord Marshall the former being the property of Johnson N Camden and Jho Inttur the property of Mr Keeno himself himselfRound Round the World was sent to the farm of John I Carr and Syringa went out to Thomas Plaits place today
