WELCOME GOVERNORS INVESTIGATION In a reply to a report from Indianapolis to the effect that Governor Marshall of Indiana will try to prevent the opening of the meeting of the Mineral Springs Jockey Club at Porter Ind Oc ¬ tober 12 on the ground that there is an inlen tion of violating Indiana laws governing betting A F Kuotts president of the new racing as ¬ sociation declared yesterday that the directors of the Mineral Springs Jockey Club welcome any investigation which the governor may make and will cooperate with him in making it At the same time he declared that inasmuch as there will be no violation of the Indiana law the authorities will find they have no power to stop the racingIf racing If Governor Marshall makes an investigation said Air Kuotts ho will learn that all of the stock in the racing plant is owned by citizens of Indiana It repeatedly has been asserted that some Chicagoans are behind the project It is my opinion that the attacks that have been made on our racing plans have been inspired by disgruntled Chicago gamblers who are hostile because they cannot cut in for their own profit If Governor Alarshall or any other man will show me where one share of stock in our race track is held by any Chicago sporting man we will make him a present of the entire plant to do as he may see fit with Inasmuch however as there is something like 100 OOO all Indiana money being spent on the plant we certainly do not intend to be dictated to from Chicago or any other place placeWhen When we started to build the track wo an ¬ nounced that we would conduct a race meeting of lift ecu days this fall We are going to make good on this announcement There will be six races run each and every day of the fifteendaysmeeting and each and every promise made to horsemen will be lived up to There will be 3000 in purses for them to race for each day and the winners will get their money each day The Seller law as Governor Alarshall and his attorneygeneral are well aware permits racing in the state We are going to conduct our meeting as is our privilege under this law lawIt It not only is our intention to conduct a race meeting of nftecn days from October 12 but we will hare another track next year and there will be ninety days of racing in Indiana Of course we shall he glad to have the patronage of Chicago for every mnn who visits the track will have to put up the price of admission At the same time we realize that the great growth of the northern section of the state within the Inst few years warrants the supposition that there are enough people right around here to support a meeting such as we will conduct
