HORSES GATHERING AT LAUREL LAURELLaurel Laurel Aid September 28 Howard Lewis train er for J E Widener the Philadelphia turfman arrived here yesterday with ten jumpers to race during the October session of the Alaryland State Fair Association Several other wellknown horse ¬ men also reached the track from Canada among them being William CahillA W Foulk and A F Dayton Air Lewis came direct from Elkins Park Pa where he has been keeping the Widener fencers in condition William conditionWilliam Garth was a visitor today The veteran turfman from old Virginia will have one of the largest bands of thoroughbreds here this fall ami when his son Lewis gets in from Woodbine he will have a band comprising nearly forty head Mr Garth has decided to house most of his horses at Beuniug from which track a special horse train will be run here each morning during the races racesAlthough Although the rainy spell has been felt at the track it bus not interrupted preparations to nnr serious extent for the opening of the meeting Work had to be abandoned for a time on the steeplechase course but carpenters and painters have been kept busy on the grandstand and paddock
