TAVO PROMINENT TURFMEN RETIRE Louisville Ivy October J T Ireland left yesterday for FA Paso Tex and his going to that city means his retirement from the turf as well as the retirement of another wellknown Kentucky horseman G H Keene The latter will meet Mr Ireland in El Paso and will with the former ojen an office there these two Kentucky turfmen having formed a company backed by eastern capital for an undertaking of gigantic proportions It is known as the KeeueIrelandParks Laud and Cattle Company and the linn holds 11000 acres of land on the Rio Grande river partly in the United States and partly in Mexico besides 15000 acres near Moapa Ariz The company also holds govern ¬ ment grazing rights on 450000 acres of land in Arizona and is liow building a dam on its reserva ¬ tion to cost 180000 180000The The undertaking is one of the biggest ever launched in the west by Kentuckians and Messrs Ireland and Keene quit the turf for good with the prospect of figuring as leading cattle raisers in the near future Both will make their home in El Paso PasoMr Mr Ireland has been prominent as a Kentucky turfman for many years AVith his brother Frank as a partner in the old days he raced such noted cracks as Yale 01 Aldebaran and Donatello and scores of winners of minor turf events The firm won the Latonia Derby with Newton in 1S92 and that performer holds the twomile track record of S27 at Washington Park Chicago Mr Ire ¬ lands last noted horse was the good hiare Cherry ola which has recently been retired G H Keene is a brother to J O Keene the trainer of Helios and other cracks owned by T N Camrten and has been racing a stable of horses successfully in the west for several years past
