RECORD OF A FAST MARE From Louisville comes word that that dis ¬ tinguished cripple Trance having broken down com ¬ pletely in a race at Douglas Park on Wednesday will be forthwith retired to the stud As a two yearold Trance raced with marked success in the colors of George M Odoin who purchased her from H T Grittiu for 3500 at Aqueduct in the spring of 1908 She had cost Mr Griffin the paltry sum of 500 aa a yearling the purchase having been made at the weeding out sale of the James It Keeue stable Trance was i remarkably good two Yearold and was rated not far behind James B JKeenes Maskette in point of class She won more than a dozen races for George Odoin under all sorts of conditions taking the measure of the famous Fitz Herbert among others Mr Odoni refused 25000 for the daughter of Ben Brush and when the season of 1909 l egau at Pimlico the young turfman l elieved that Trance would be ono of the reigning sensations But ranch to his dismay the filly after a fast workout over the Baltimore track one morning pulled up with a pair of bad knees after having won one race Mr Odom saw at a glanco that her racing days were temporarily at an end and he promptly shipped her to the farm to be turned out outShe She came back in 1910 and made a fair showing after passing into the possession of J U Wain wrlght who acquired her out of a selling race Since then site has raced infrequently and with only a moderate degree of success because of her iu Brmlttes She will DOW join the mares that Mr Wainwxight already has in the stud Her racing record is as follows Trance b m 1906 by Ben Brush Fair Vision Sis 1st 2d 2d2ti 3d Unn Won 2ti 1 7 2 1 28147 1 1 O 0 0 40 20 8 3 1 8 3400 0 1 3 855 Totals 5 02 30 12
