ANOTHER WHITNEY FILLY WINS Albert Simons Uncovers Likely Juvenile at Norfolk Soiling Platers Jn Action Norfolk Va April 3 Albert Simons trainer for Harry Payne Whitney uncovered another likely twoyearold filly this afternoon in Vega a daughter of Hamburg and Bonnie Star which proved easily Ixst of the lot that went to the post iu the opening dash which she won bv a length Vega was ridden by Troxier went around her opposition on the oiit = in the stretch racing and won going away awayivor ivor Bey on the strength of some fast trials ruled favorite and was well supported This yuuug titcr showed good siteed for three furlongs but weakened and pulled up sore It developed that Knvor Bey had bucked his shins and he will un ¬ doubtedly give a good account of himself at some future time Racing conditions were again pleasant and an ¬ other large crowd turned out The card although in tlie main made up of selling races brought well matched fields to the harrier and keen contests re ¬ sulted William Garth furnished the only winning favorite of the afternoon in Cherry Seed which beat Tlieo Cook half a length in a driving finish The Charleston contingent accounted for half the purses with Agnier Clem Beachey and Spellbound The last named showed much improvement over his previous effort In todays race he opened up a long lead in the early stages and managed to last long enough to beat the favorite Colonel Cook a head In the stretch racing SpelllKMind was in ¬ clined to bear out and in the last sixteenth he car ¬ ried Colonel Cook wide Montour who had the mount on the latter lodged a claim of foul against the winner but the stewards permitted tho placing to remain as the horses had finished finishedThere There were two runups during the afternoon J W Ildrick boosted Cherry Seed 205 over his en ¬ tered pice In both instances the winners were re ¬ tained by their owners ownersJockey Jockey Teahan was an arrival this afternoon He came from his home at Windsor Out where he stopped over on his way north from Juarez Paul J Miles Teahans employer went to Hot Springs The Miles racers which were turned out at Lex ¬ ington have been taken up and put in training again againJockey Jockey C Grand left last night for his homo iu Illinois IllinoisH H J Klttleman was among the arrivals this morn ¬ ing He came from New York YorkColonel Colonel Cook changed hands after his defeat In tlu sixth race C C Smithson claiming him with
