Park racing today It was won by E F Cooueys Ornament Algie M colt Punch ISowl which made a show of his opposition Punch Howl was a warm favorite favoriteThe The Juvenile Stakes first run in 1874 was a termed the Goodwood of America It well deserves the appellation for It is a natural institution nature having supplied the carpets and surrounding beauties The Piping Kock course is different from others in the metro ¬ politan district and is unquestionably designed to appeal more to society than to the regular racegoer It has already been the means of attracting new blood to racing that would otherwise have been uninterested The colonies of Long Island have taken a fancy to Iiping Kock and the appreciation of racing near Locust Valley is pronounced It is probable that a greater crowd will attend to ¬ morrows races than ever before as the revival of the sport at Uelmont Park has rearoused the in ¬ terest that has lain dormant for three years The interest in not only local as many society folks from Maryland Washington Virginia Philadepuia Ilostou and other cities will be there thereMany Many of the horses that will take part are prac ¬ tically unknown among the amateur horsemen and members of the bunting set yet there are plenty of good handicap horses and high class steeple TliVsers among the entries which are prolific in some cases especially in the subscription races racesAt At llelmont Park where most of the horses that Will participate are quartered preparations have been going on for some time with regard to tho horses that will be raced A special train of hors cars will each day carry from llclmoiit Park to Locust Valley these horses and judging from the number of reservations that have been made the fields will be large in some cases casesAmong Among the arrivals at llelmont yesterday was a delegation of army horses from Washington number ¬ ing close to twenty The olliccrs Who own and will ride these horses will be here today and the races given over to them will IK of more interest than ever The Secretary of War and General Wood chief of staff appreciating the gooil these races do both in the development of the horses and in Improving the skill of the ofiicers are making every effort to encourage these races under proper auspices auspicesThe The showing of the subscription race twoyearolds is looked upon with interest independent of the rich rewards which await the owners ot the placed horses in both preliminary trials The consolation and the final race on Monday will be worth 1O000 about as rich a juvenile slake as will IKS run an this country this year These colts and fillies were purchased last fall as yearlings in various parts of the country and brought here for distribution with ¬ out the faintest idea as to their
