OTTAWA CLUBS EXCELLENT BEGINNING When the green and gold banner of the Counauf Park Jockey Club that had lloated all week fr tile staff on the club lawn was lowered at the conclusion of Saturdays racing it signalized the close of what must bo regarded as the most re ¬ markable meeting In the history of the Canadian turf Not even the most sanguine wellwisher with any knowledge of the establishment of racing at the other points where It is now so popular could have anticipated the Instantaneous and complete success that attended the Connanght Park lining ural There was nothing In tlie record to iustify onehalf of what Ottawa has shown but the brii llancy of the owning was carried right along Each day developed more interest and more Intelligent appreciation of what the club was endeavoring to furnish the people of this city and on the closing day only seven days after the institution of racing there on an organized basis the showing was vastly better in every respect than any other course in Canada after being as many rears in operation And all this it must IK remembered In the face of things to discourage one for the property is new without the finishing touches as yet It yetIt was said in this column a week ago that Ot tawa was fully on the racing map and that can be supplemented by the confident anticipation that from now on It will be as conspicuous as anv jniint on that map no matter how long established Francis Nelson in Toronto Globe
