AMATEUR SEASON AT AN END Spring Hunt Club Schedule Conies to Close at Bclmont Park Terminal New York June 27 The spring meeting of the United Hunts Racing Association came to an end at Bclmont Park Terminal this afternoon and brought to an end tlic series of tiunt meetings around New York for the spring season Although the weather was threatening society turned out in largo numbers as the card was an attractive out Before the day was over the blue pencil had played such a prominent part that the liehls in the different races were greatly reduced The most scratching was done in the SHirtsmens Steeple ¬ chase Dinner Stakes which was to have been tha feature of the program Four of the thirteen subscribers failed to nominate u horse for the race and of the nine that were carded the only horses to face the starter wcro O Bear and Hock Ablvey Tim Donohue trainer of the last named did not care much about starting Ilock Abbey but when he saw that it would otherwise be a walkover for O Bear lie thought lie would take a chance As matters turned out it was n chance far better than he dreamed of for Rock Abbey was returned the win ¬ ner and Charles Plizer his owner will have the honor of acting as host at the dinner O Bear ap ¬ peared to outclass Hock Abbey to such an extent that he was at all times an oddson choice but the race turned out to be a farce liefore the lirst jump had been cleared O Bear beat Hock Abbey away from the i st but he gave his backers i shock at the lirst jump when lie ran out of the course instead of clearing the ol olstacle stacle He was brought back to the jump but when Mr AlK rs tried to send him over he refused On the second trial he cleared it but 1 y that time Hock Abbev was far in front and although O Bear was sent over the course he never got anywiicre near Hock Ablicy which had merely to canter in front all the way Tommy Wright who hud the mount on Hock Abbey also scored with the good thing Deduc ¬ tion in the second race Deduction led all the way and won in a canter The race was practically settled at the seiidoff the start Ixing a straggling one with the favorite Flying Yankee practically left at the post He closed a big gip Form gipForm students started the day poorly for the two choices Windrow and Malthie went down at the last jump Malthie the closing favorite ap ¬ peared to have the race won up to that point but nfter clearing the last jump he stumbled and fell and Windrow fell o him This left thy race to the two outsiders Ben Cabcll and Native Maid and they tinished as named Native Maid liill d up lame Windrow was remounted by Mr Lewis and tinished in time to secure third money Tho moneyTho Montauk Plate was easy for the wellbacked horse Footlights which on Ms showing a few days ago should have licen favorite instead of as goo as r to 1 at one stage of the betting lie led all the way and beat the odds on choice Heiipeck in easv fashion In the Hempstead Handicap Steeplechase Kl Bart had only Simon Dale and OConnor to beat and he did that without anv trouble hard held at the finish Eadbald also had flu easy time in winning the Members Handicap Plate
